Rapid Play Rules

Format: There will be 3 Rapid Play tournaments held during the year. Each will have 6 rounds and be played over two weeks as a Swiss tournament.
Prizes: There is a $75 prize for the champion as well as $75 awarded to the highest finishing player in the lower half of the field (the “Reserve Prize”). There will also be a cash prize of $50 awarded to the highest finishing unrated player provided that there are at least 5 unrated players. A medal will also be presented to the winners of each section of the Rapid Play.
Rate of Play: 15 minutes plus a 5 second increment for each move played.
Rapid Play Champion: The Champion for the year will be the player with the highest aggregate score for any 2 of the 3 tournaments held for that year.
Tie for First Place: If there is a tie, then there will be joint winners and the prize money will be divided equally.

Rapid Play Tournaments

The inclusion of the Rapid Play Tournaments seems to have begun in 2013. Being an unrated event, it encourages players to experiment and take more chances, often leading to exciting and unexpected outcomes.
