I felt that this would provide an advantage with it's positional play. (R.C)} 4.e3 a6 {An unusual choice against the London, it worries about Bb5+ which isn't much of threat due to c6. but perhaps later could be used to play b5 and let the light squared bishop be on the long diagonal. (R.C)} 5.Bd3 Bd6 6.Bg3 O-O 7.Nbd2 Nc6 8.Ne5 {Just plugging the centre, maybe f4 to follow to solidify the knight. (R.C)} Nb4 9.Be2 c5 10.c3 Nc6 11.O-O Ne4?! {The start of blacks problems. Either black will be a pawn down in the end or have a weak pawn structure. (R.C)} 12.Nxe4 Bxe5 13.Nxc5 Bxg3 14.hxg3 e5 {Opens the LSB with the potential to close down the centre after e4. However, this creates an isolated queens pawn which is a very easy target. (R.C)} 15.dxe5 Nxe5 16.Nd3 Re8 17.Nxe5 Rxe5 18.Bf3 Be6 19.Qd4 Qc7 20.Rfd1 Rg5 21.Qf4 Qe5 22.Rd4 Rc8 23.Rad1 f6 {Holds some of blacks pieces together but opens up a diagonal to the king allowing for an interesting continuation. I can also take the pawn and go into a Queen vs 2 Rooks endgame but felt that was too adventurous. (R.C)} 24.Qxe5 Rxe5 (24...fxe5 25.Bxd5 exd4 (25...Bxd5 26.Rxd5 {With white's central control of the d-file and more compact pawn structure, I fell this is better for white. (R.C)}) 26.Bxe6+ Kf8 27.Bxc8 dxe3 28.fxe3 Rxg3 29.Kf2 {One possible line with white being a piece up. (R.C)}) 25.Bxd5 Bxd5 26.Rxd5 Rxd5 27.Rxd5 Rc7 28.f4 Kf7 29.Kf2 Ke7 30.e4 Rc6 31.Ke3 Rb6 32.b3 {b4 also works but I figured I wouldn't rush and make too many mistakes in this endgame. (R.C)} g6 33.g4 h6 34.c4 Rc6 35.c5 b6 36.b4 Ke6 37.Kd4 bxc5+ 38.bxc5 g5 39.g3 Ke7 40.e5 fxe5+ 41.Rxe5+ Kf6 42.Kd5 gxf4 {Fixes my pawn structure from doubled to connected. (R.C)} 43.gxf4 Rc8 44.Re6+ Kg7 45.c6 {And black resigned. A solid opening from Black with resistance until the end, with positional play being key throughout. Thanks for the game. (R.C)} {#r}
