Nb5 { We arrive at white's point. I've fallen for this before, I really should learn how to counter it. Square c7 now hopelessly weak. } 8... Na6 { A desperate move that performs two tasks - protecting c7 and preparing Bb4+. } 9. Qa4 { White in control now. The black knight will fall, and white has a deadly discovered check. However! White's king side is completely undeveloped, which can be taken advantage off. } 9... Bb4+ 10. Kd1 { A surprising move. White's king now hopelessly exposed. } 10... O-O { I eventually reached the conclusion that the a6 knight could not be saved, and black's efforts would be better spent spiriting the king away and developing an attack on white's king. } 11. Qxa6 { White picks up the free material, but their development is a disaster. } 11... Ne4 { Black threatens to win a rook with check, and lets the queen out of jail. } 12. Bg3 Nxg3 { Black wants to develop the queen to g4, but can't because of f4 - best to take the bishop first, even though it lets white's h rook out of jail. (Note: the engine found a move here fatal for white, above my pay grade sadly) } 13. hxg3 Qg5 14. Nf3 Bg4 { Pins the knight, and threatens Qd2#. } 15. Nc3 { A retreating move the blocks black's eye on d2. } 15... Qf6 { This move achieves a few things. It threatens Qd4+, and also Bxf3+ gxf3 Qxf3+ wins a rook. } 16. cxd5 { White cleverly clears a path for their queen, which I failed to notice. } 16... Qxd4+ 17. Qd3 Qxd3+ { Not sure this was the best idea. } 18. Bxd3 h6 { Avoids Bxh8+. Would h5 have been better? Given their undeveloped rooks and being down a whole piece, things looking grim for black. } 19. dxe6 fxe6 { Damages black's pawn structure, but puts pressure on f3. } (19... Bxe6 20. Ng5 hxg5 21. Bh7+ { Disaster for black! }) 20. Ke2 { White spots this and acts, also connecting their rooks. } 20... Rac8 { Develops to c file to allow for c5. Black has assumed a loss and so is going for reckless attack. } 21. Rac1 Rc5 { Preparing for checking and doubling opportunities. } 22. Kf1 { Not sure what white was going for here - presumably to free up the knight for other duties. } 22... Bxf3 { Probably a poor move, but I didn't know what else to do with the bishop. } 23. gxf3 Rxf3 24. Be2 Rf8 { A safe retreat square from white's bishop and knight. } 25. Kg2 Rcf5 { Preparing to pressure f2. } 26. Nd1 { White spots this and defends. } 26... Bc5 27. Rf1 { White's pieces now passively defending its position. Does white's extra piece guarantee domination? } 27... h5 { Black launches an attack on white's king. } 28. Ne3 Re5 { Avoid white knight's gaze and line up against the knight and hanging bishop. } 29. Rc3 h4 { Picking at white's defences. } 30. gxh4 Re4 { Maintain pin on the bishop and threaten the h pawn. } 31. h5 Rff4 { Continuing the offence in the face of dwindling time and a material deficit. } 32. Rh1 Re5 { Preparing Rg5+. Possibly a bad idea as both rooks on same colour as bishop. } 33. Kg3 Rf8 { White's pieces restricting black's rooks. } 34. Rd1 Rg5+ 35. Ng2 Rxb2 { Under time pressure, black catches the pawn-grabbing disease. } 42. Nf4 { Threatens Nxe6, winning a pawn and forking the bishop and rook. Black cannot afford to lose any material. } 42... Re5 43. Nxe6 { White grabs the pawn anyway. } 43... Re3+ { Black's aim now is to check check check. Also, why is white being so cavalier with their clock? } 44. Kh4 Bf6+ 45. Ng5+ { Forced. } 45...
