Welcome to the website for the Begonia Open Chess Tournament for 2017.
It's coming soon- 4 Australian Grandmasters head the lineup, rising star, Anton Smirnov IM has notified his intention to play, and entries are increasing daily. The Tournament will be FIDE rated, and experienced commentator IM Robert Jamieson will provide live commentary after the success of this in 2016.
So hold the dates (March 11-13, 2017) and start planning for your weekend in Ballarat! Entries are open! Go to the Entries page to register your interest.
This year's Arbiters are: IA Peter Tsai, assisted by Nigel Barrow, Bjorn Lategan.
Chesslife founder and chess coach, David Koetsier, will be giving a lecture, 'How to exchange pieces in the Endgame' on the Saturday morning before the tournament starts. For the princely sum of $5.00 you will be able to get some pre-tournament training and advice. Start time is 11 am.

Game Commentary
IM Robert Jamieson who gave game commentary in the Australian Open last year has agreed to come up country to do the same at the Begonia. Robert is a respected player and teacher of the game and we are very lucky to have his support.
